GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers plan to get Brett Hundley a lengthy stint at quarterback didnt last as long as theyd hoped. Hundley, who started in place of a resting Aaron Rodgers, left Thursdays 20-12 preseason win over the Oakland Raiders early in the second quarter because of an ankle injury.Packers physician Dr. Pat McKenzie could be seen looking at Hundleys left ankle, the same one that kept him out of practice for nearly two weeks earlier in training camp.Hundley would not have been able to play in the Hall of Fame Game had it not been canceled, and he did not suit up for last weeks preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.McCarthy said after Thursdays game that Hundley was doing good.He reinjured the ankle, same injury as the first time, but they dont think its as bad as the original, McCarthy said. Dont have a timeline, and well see how he is in the morning. Before his injury Thursday,?Hundley directed an early touchdown drive that used more than half of the clock in the first quarter. He finished 5-of-7 for 67 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.Undrafted rookie Joe Callahan, who started against the Browns, replaced Hundley. The only other available quarterback Thursday was rookie Marquise Williams, another undrafted free agent.Hundley, a fifth-round pick in 2015, was the Packers third-string quarterback last season but never played a snap. He moved up to No. 2 after Scott Tolzien signed with the Indianapolis Colts in free agency this offseason. Last summer, Hundley led the NFL in preseason passing yards (690) and threw for seven touchdowns and just one interception. Stitched College Jerseys . Wainwright won three successive starts against Houston at the beginning of the 2007 campaign. He allowed just four runs over 20 innings in beginning his personal run against the Astros. He allowed five hits, struck out nine and walked one on Tuesday. The right-hander, who will make his second All-Star appearance next week, has won seven successive starts against his former NL Central rival. His lone loss to the Astros was a 2-0 setback on Aug. 2, 2009. Wainwright, who is tied with Washingtons Jordan Zimmermann (12-3) for most wins in the NL, was in complete control. He retired the first five batters and never looked back. "Its never easy against a big-league squad, but I felt I stayed out of trouble for the most part," Wainwright said. St. Louis manager Mike Matheny agreed. "He just came out and established his breaking ball," Matheny said. "He used different speeds and moved in-and-out with his fastball. Just terrific." St. Louis closer Edward Mujica struck out J.D. Martinez with two on and two out to pick up his 24th save in 25 opportunities. The Cardinals, who jumped out to a 7-0 lead, battered former nemesis Bud Norris (6-8) for seven runs and 11 hits in five innings. Freese and Descalso started the fourth with hits. Carpenter pushed the lead to 5-0 with a double that just eluded a diving Carlos Pena at first. Carlos Beltran followed with an RBI single. Allen Craig added run-scoring hits in the sixth and eighth. He is second in the NL with 71 RBIs. "This was a full offensive game from top to bottom all the way through the lineup," Carpenter said. "It was impressive." St. Louis reliever Kevin Siegrist pitched a scoreless eighth inning. He has not allowed a run over the first 12 appearances of his career, a franchise record. The Astros scored four times in the ninth. Jake Elmore and Jose Altuve had RBI singles. Houston manager Bo Porter was pleased with the way his club fought until the end.
